此诗写于1951年。诗人书写了他离开祖国大陆的苍凉心境。他通过漏风的帆，黄昏的一片云，午夜的一颗星和心头的一个影，强烈地写出了离开祖国大陆的游子的孤独、寂寞和一种漂泊无根的心绪和情感。游子日思暮想，于是归乡之梦萦绕，“昨夜，/月光在还上铺一条金路，/渡我的梦回到大陆”，游子在梦中终于见到了老母，但当他发狂般扑过去时，幻想却破灭了，老母早已埋在荒野草丛中。诗作真实地展示了一个流亡者凄凉的、绝望的心态。
